Why it's easier than you think

Why French vocabulary already feels familiar

After the Norman conquest of 1066, French flowed into English for centuries — which is why roughly a third of English words trace back to French. The payoff for a modern learner is huge: enormous numbers of words are spelled identically or almost identically in both languages. Nation, information, situation, important, table, village and restaurant need no translation at all. The real challenge in French isn't the vocabulary you can see on the page — it's the gap between spelling and sound: silent final consonants, nasal vowels and liaison. Navoq treats those as a pronunciation skill you practise out loud, while your existing English vocabulary carries you through reading and meaning from day one.

Why French pronunciation feels hard — and how to crack it

French spelling and sound don’t line up the way English speakers expect: final consonants are often silent (petit), words link together with liaison (les amis → “lay-z-ami”), and nasal vowels (bon, vin, un) have no English equivalent.
