Months and seasons in Italian

Months and seasons are everyday essentials, and the Italian months are close enough to English that you already half-know them — plus they're easy to pronounce.

Two things to remember

  • No capital letters — months are lowercase: Il mio compleanno è a maggio.
  • Saying dates: use il + number + month: il 5 maggio. The first of the month uses the ordinal — il primo maggio (the 1st of May).

Mind the soft and double sounds: giugno ("JOO-nyo"), luglio ("LOO-lyo"), and the double g in maggio and double t in ottobre.

Make them stick by saying them
