Two handy plurals

Spanish uses the masculine plural for mixed groups, which gives you two very common words: los padres means "the parents" (not just "the fathers"), and los hijos means "the children" (sons and daughters together). Likewise los abuelos = the grandparents, los tíos = aunt(s) and uncle(s).

Saying "my"

Use mi for one and mis for more than one: mi madre (my mother), mis hermanos (my brothers / siblings). To introduce someone: Este es mi hermano (This is my brother).
